  • Professional Photographer Magazine Cover!

We are very honored to have won the Professional Photographer Magazine Cover Contest!

I always thought this would make a great cover. It was an outtake from a Holiday Cover we shot for CityDog Magazine. Although it didn't quite look right for CityDog, I think it looks pretty amazing on the front of Professional Photographer. I could not be more thrilled with this honor!

Meet Tawny | Seattle Humane Society | Bailey & Banjo – Bellevue Pet Photography

I got to meet Tawny today and like all the dogs I get to meet and photograph, we went on a great walk. She is a 1 year old, Welsh Corgi/Terrier mix. Super cute and easy on a leash, we walked around the trails and gave her lots of scratches and some treats which she gently nibbled from my hand. She has a really wonderful playful side to her and overall was a sweet companion on my walk. You can head over and meet Tawny at the Seattle Humane Society, but get there soon, I have a feeling she’s going to be adopted fast!

APRIL 7th – UPDATE: ADOPTED!!

Mud Bay | West Seattle Pet Photography

I am happy to announce, and very thankful for the opportunity, to have my work on display in Mud Bay Pet Store in West Seattle for the month of April. I am hoping it will be extended, but for now it is currently on display for the next 30 days!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience the Mud Bay in West Seattle, you are really missing out on a fantastic pet store. They have some of the most friendly and helpful staff I have ever met. Every time I am in there, the wonderful people that work there are actively helping customers. I see them helping owners with fitting harnesses and collars, to choosing a pet food, or answering questions about the variety of awesome toys and treats they have for sale. Someone is always right there giving dogs treats or scratching some ears. If they don’t carry something, they happily call a local competitor to get you what you need. They always answer with honesty and integrity even if that means they make a little less on the sale. It is clearly important to them that you get the most appropriate item for your animal. Now how can you pass that up? They are truly the experts!

They also hold events at this location, and one I know of is a Doga demonstration put on by Brenda Bryan from Westside Yoga|Doga. If you love yoga and love your dog, this is a can’t miss event!

Need the latest issue of CityDog Magazine? They carry that too! I just read in the sneak peek email I got that the Dog’s Eye View in the upcoming Spring issue is West Seattle!

So head on down to Mud Bay in West Seattle to check out all the great new images I was able to display there, grab a business card from the community center and give us a call if you are interested in booking a session. Summer is coming and dates are booking up fast!

You can find Mud Bay on Facebook too, so be sure to LIKE them! Here’s a quick look at what the store looks like with all the framed prints above the counter area! Thanks again Mud Bay for having my work displayed in your awesome store!

Friday Night Dog Love | Bailey & Banjo | Week 9

Tonight’s Friday Night Dog Love is going to be a little different. We are keeping it SUPER close to home, the closest it can get. Not to be all self serving, but I have a couple of fantastic things I want to share and figured this is the best place to do it since Bailey, Banjo and I love what we do. It fits…and it’s my column, so I’m taking up a week for an awesome announcement and a very special new division of Bailey & Banjo.

It has been a big day today for me and Bailey & Banjo. Some great news I let out earlier on Facebook about the sneak peek of the latest CityDog Magazine cover. Although it has not hit the presses yet as of this writing (it’s coming soon!), it’s still crazy exciting to see one of your own images on the cover! I have been very fortunate to be a contributing photographer for CityDog for the past several months. It has been a lot of work, and a ton of fun, and I could not be more thankful for the experience!

Now for the second big piece of news. We have been working hard trying to get this up and running for some time now, and tonight is a bit of a soft launch, but I hope that you will help us spread the word and support us as we grow. Bailey, Banjo and I have all been touched in some way by Cancer. Human and/or Canine cancer…I think we all can relate in some way. We wanted to start something to help raise funds to find a cure, to share research, to work in whatever ways there are to find more breakthroughs to get to a cure for this hideous disease. Bailey and Banjo both have lost some of their buddies to Cancer, it’s hard on us, and it’s hard on the dogs we love. So, let me introduce a new division of Bailey & Banjo called…

Lick. Slobber. Drool. a division of Bailey & Banjo

I know it’s a silly name. You can read about how it came to be on our site. Some might find it gross, but we think it’s hysterical and it makes us smile. So as long as we are smiling, and getting our silly name out there, we are raising funds that go to a great cause. Right now, we are donating 1% of the proceeds to Chase Away K9 Cancer, a grassroots effort that to date, has raised over $450,000 and has funded nine studies. tshirts for sale at lick. slobber. drool. Chase Away K9 Cancer also aims to build a community where people can find comfort and understanding; where no one will say “it’s just a dog”. I have met Cera Reusser, a wonderful person, and know how incredibly passionate she is about reaching the ultimate goal in finding a cure. I would love to help in as big of a way as I can. Starting here, with Lick. Slobber. Drool.
UPDATE: While we continue to raise funds and awareness for Canine Cancer and Chase Away, we have added a new scholarship fund within Lick. Slobber. Drool. to help one family with medical expenses associated with Canine Cancer. Please head to Lick. Slobber. Drool. to read more about our new and exciting development!

Lick. Slobber. Drool. bumper stickerLick. Slobber. Drool. is a small dog lifestyle company selling t-shirts and stickers to start, but eventually growing into other items (email me if you have something you’d like to see). The minimum amount donated will always be 1% of the proceeds, but at times that number will change and grow. We will let you know when it does and I hope you will join us on our journey in growing this company, and raising the money to find a cure as soon as possible.

Please find Chase Away K9 Cancer on Facebook as well, and suggest to your friends. I think one step at a time we can all really make a dent here in Canine Cancer, and with the continuation of shared research, hopefully there’s a 100% cure for both our pets and ourselves.

** If you have any issues with the Lick. Slobber. Drool. site or ordering, please email me at baileyandbanjo@gmail.com, there may be a few little shipping bugs to be worked out. If you would feel better about ordering anything directly through me, you can also just shoot me an email and let me know sticker and/or shirt and what size!

Banjo in mid shake | Issaquah Pet Photography

How can you not love a face like that? We were all out in the front yard yesterday enjoying the sun and I caught this one as Banjo was shaking vigorously for some reason. His face looks all distorted and every time I look at it, he just cracks me up. This image just screams ‘Banjo’. We love it!

Friday Night Dog Love | Bailey & Banjo | Week 8

Okay fine…call us tag snobs. It might be true. The three of us LOVE dog tags. There are so many fun and whimsy ones out there, it’s tough to just go out and buy a plain ol thin metal dog bone one. That, and Bailey likes to look stylish too. This week we found another Etsy store called Doggone Tags. The tags are all mixed metal, with super fun whimsy designs but with that aged look to it, which is right up our alley.

gorgeous mixed metal dog tagMelissa, the owner has been making people jewelry for quite some time and then she got a puppy. It was all over after that. I can imagine this dog must have a bazillion totally cool dog tags, one for every day at least. I am glad Melissa started making dogs tags as well, because I just think they are beautiful.

Bailey says the Soaring Heart is her favorite. She loves all the curlies etched in the metal and the big heart in the middle fits who she is. We can even get two phone numbers etched on the back!

Banjo loves the Jedi, he didn’t tell me why, but I think he feels like he’s some sort of Superstar. If there was a category for Superstar lickers…I think he’d be right. I like how the back has another layer of copper on the back too for the phone number. It’s awesome! They have all been soldered together for strength and longevity.

She is working on a Facebook page for her business, but for now you can search for her on Facebook at Melissa Gay Gilkey.
